Colour grade a video
Colour grade a video the way you edit a photo: adjust one frame in the photo editor, and Portman2 applies the same look to every frame of the clip.
Making a grade
- Open the video's trim panel with Edit video.
- Move the playhead to a representative frame and click Edit this frame. That frame opens in the editor, taken from the original at full size.
- Adjust it as you would a photo.
- Click Apply to video. The look is applied to every frame and the clip is saved, together with any trim, in one encode.
Reset all in the editor puts the frame back to neutral.
Changing or removing it
The trim panel says No grade, or Graded at the time of the frame it was made on. Edit the grade reopens it on that same frame. Remove grade takes the grade off, and the next Save writes the clip in its original colours.
Layers on a video
The editor's Layers button works on the frame too, for masks, clarity, grain and the light effects. These are rendered on every frame, which can take minutes for a long clip, and a mask stays where it was drawn on the frame — it does not follow the subject.
Some clips cannot be graded — an HDR clip, for instance. The panel then says why instead of offering Edit this frame.
