Find your way round the main window
A tour of Portman2's main window: the top bar, the sidebar of albums, tags and dates down the left, and the grid of photos and videos that fills the rest.
The top bar
The top bar is also the window's title bar, so you can drag the window by any empty part of it. From left to right it shows:
- the Portman2 mark and the version you are running;
- an update chip, when a newer version is available (see Updates);
- N selected, with an ✕ that clears the selection, while anything is selected;
- the videos bar button, while the Videos slice is on;
- the tile size button and the filter button;
- a LAN server running chip while the LAN server is on — click it to open its settings;
- how many items the grid is showing;
- the library's avatar, which opens the library menu.
When the window is narrow the version and chips drop out first; the controls stay.
The sidebar footer
Four buttons sit at the foot of the sidebar: Import (Ctrl+I), Multi screen (Ctrl+Shift+P), Help and Settings (Ctrl+,). Help opens the list of keyboard shortcuts.
Holding F1 anywhere shows a card of the keys that work where you are, for as long as you hold it.
Banners
When something is wrong with the library a banner appears under the top bar with a Retry button: a pipeline error, a catalogue that belongs to a different folder, or a photo folder that cannot be reached. While the folder is unreachable the grid keeps showing the thumbnails it already has.
Full screen
F11 makes the window fill the screen. In full screen the window buttons go, and a cross in the top-right corner leaves full screen again.
The CPU and GPU cards in the bottom-right corner are optional; switch them on or off under Appearance.
