Previous versions
Every build published before the current one is kept, and every one of them can still be downloaded. It is here for the case it is actually needed: a machine where the newest build misbehaves, and going back to the one that worked while it is looked into.
The current build is on the download page
Windows will warn you about these installers too
Every installer here is unsigned, exactly as the current one is, so Windows is likely to stop it with a blue window headed "Windows protected your PC" and offer you a button that says don't run it. That is about the file having no code-signing certificate on it and not about what is in it.
The download page explains what that window says and how to go past it, and it is worth reading first if you have not met it before.
The checksums
Each build below is listed with its own SHA-256, and the download of that build carries the same number in an X-Portman-Sha256 header — both come from the one row in the release table this page is reading. Comparing the two is what tells you the file you have is the file that was published, and the download page has the line to type.

Importing gets easier, slideshows get two moving 3D scenes, and a long list of fixes makes the everyday work more dependable.
- Quick Import: drag in a few photos or videos from anywhere, see where each one will be filed, and give them tags or an album as they arrive.
- Two new slideshow looks, Photowall and Space: your photos as prints on a wall sliding past, or flying towards you through a dark, softly lit space. Each has its own settings for size, direction and lighting.
- Choose how a library files its photos, the folders and the file names, when you create it. If its folders already follow a pattern, Portman2 notices and offers to keep to it.
- After an import that empties a camera card, Portman2 offers to delete the files it skipped because the library already had them, so the card is left clean.
- The Conflicts tab lets you tick many files and give them all a date at once, says how far along it is, and remembers its list after a restart.
- Videos play in the flat slideshow, for up to 30 seconds each.
- An empty view now says why it is empty, and what to do about it.
- Portman2 checks for updates once a day as well as at start-up, so a window left open for a week still hears about a new version.
And fixes you may notice:
- A scan that finds no files at all, because a drive or a network share cannot be reached, no longer empties the library.
- Cancelling a scan or an analysis keeps the work it had already finished.
- An import's summary adds up, and every copy is checked against the original before the original is deleted.
- Resolving a Quick Import conflict keeps the original when you asked it to, and the photo joins the album the batch was given.
Escwhile renaming a library ends the rename, instead of closing Settings.- A computer where the background host is serving now shows the address to open on your phone.

From this version on, Portman2 keeps itself up to date: it tells you when a newer version is out and installs it for you.
- A chip beside the version number says when an update is available. One click downloads it inside the app, checks it, and installs it, and Portman2 opens again when it is done.
- A new Privacy pane in Settings decides whether this copy may say, once a day, that it exists. It never sends your name, your photos or anything about your library, and it is yours to switch off.
- Click an album or tag chip in the viewer to open that album or tag, or to take the photo out of it, without leaving the viewer.
- Photos taken in summer are no longer catalogued an hour early, so one taken just after midnight lands on the right day. Libraries you already have are corrected.

A steadier Portman2, above all for households that keep their library on a network share and use it from more than one computer.
- A computer whose libraries all live on a network share can now install the background host, and give it the share's password, so it serves and syncs while Portman2 is closed.
- A request that never comes back can no longer freeze the window for the rest of the session: Portman2 gives up on it and carries on.
- "Syncing from…" goes out as soon as the sync is done, instead of staying lit for minutes afterwards.
- Your computers stop asking each other, over and over, for a photo you have already moved to the trash.
- A save made while another computer is busy with the same library no longer waits half a minute.
- If Portman2 ever crashes or stops answering, it now keeps a short record on your computer of what it was doing, so the cause can be found.
- The light of the progress bar stays on the bar, instead of spilling over the top row of the grid.
- The counts at the end of a scan are spaced so each one reads on its own.
