Scans, imports and other long jobs
Scanning, thumbnails, imports, syncing and other long jobs run in the background while you keep using Portman2, each with progress and a Stop button.
Where a job shows
- While Settings or the Import dialog is open on the pane that owns a job, the job is drawn there as a progress panel, with its counts and a Stop button.
- Otherwise it shows as a sticky notice at the bottom left of the window, under the ordinary notices. It stays until the job ends.
Click a job's notice to open the pane that owns it. The ✕ on the notice only hides it — the job carries on. Where possible the notice shows the thumbnail of the photo or video being worked on.
Stopping a job
Press Stop on the job's panel. Jobs stop safely: what was already done stays done, and running the job again carries on from there.
Jobs that start by themselves
Some work starts on its own:
- analysing new photographs with the machine-learning models when the library is otherwise idle (see Machine learning);
- syncing with the library's other computers;
- a reminder when the last backup is more than a week old.
