Open the photo editor
Press Ctrl+E, or choose Edit… on the photo menu, to open Portman2's photo editor on one photo or on a whole selection.
- From the grid, the editor opens on the whole selection, or on the highlighted photo when nothing is selected.
- From the viewer, it opens on the photo on screen.
The editor takes over the window. The photos fill the left side as a sheet of tiles, each previewing the edit live, and the controls are in a sidebar on the right.
The sidebar
From the top:
- the heading — Edit, then how many photos it is editing, or this photo only while you are adjusting one photo on its own;
- the Layers button, which opens the Layers surface;
- the histogram, which follows the edit as you change it;
- the tabs: Quick, Light, Colour, B&W, Presets, Crop and Info. A tab whose settings are not neutral shows a dot, so an edit is never hidden on a tab you are not looking at;
- the buttons that save or undo the edit, which stay visible on every tab.
Closing
Press Esc or click the ✕ in the top-right corner. While one photo is up on its own, Esc first goes back to the whole sheet. If the edit has not been saved, the editor asks Discard changes? before it closes.
Videos are edited differently: Edit… on a video opens it in the viewer with the video editor.
