Portman2 is in beta. Features are still being added, nothing here should be taken as final, and things can change or be removed without notice.

Make thumbnails and video previews

Make the thumbnails, video poster frames and hover previews the library is waiting for, and choose how many of the computer's cores the previews use.

The Thumbnails & video pane makes the pictures the catalogue is waiting for, and is where the video jobs show their progress.

Thumbnails

A line says how many photos are waiting for thumbnails or hold out-of-date ones — after an Index only scan, a sync, or an edit — or that every indexed photo has its thumbnails. Bake makes them.

The figure is counted when the pane opens; the refresh button counts again.

Video previews

A line says how many videos are waiting for their poster frame and hover preview. Generate makes them. Scanning only indexes videos; this decoder-heavy job is started separately.

Workers sets how many of the computer's cores the next run uses. A run already under way keeps the number it started with.

When this computer has no FFmpeg, the pane says what is missing and offers to get it: see FFmpeg.

Video jobs

While they run, the pane also shows, each with Stop:

  • Saving a video — a trim or grade being saved;
  • Duplicating videos for editing;
  • Combining videos;
  • Video conversion — the queue of videos being converted, with what happened to the ones already done. Videos are queued with Convert selected on the videos bar or Convert… on a video's menu.
