Portman2 is in beta. Features are still being added, nothing here should be taken as final, and things can change or be removed without notice.

Rename, move or forget libraries

See every library on this computer and the space its cache takes, then rename it, move its catalogue and thumbnails to another drive, or forget it.

The Libraries section lists every library on this computer, and is where they are tidied up. The library menu's Manage libraries opens it.

New library at the top creates one — see Creating a library. Creating one does not leave the library you are in.

Each library

A row shows the library's name and avatar, its photo folder and originals folder, with buttons to copy each path and open each folder, and how much space its cache takes. The library this window has open is marked This window. A library whose drive is not reachable is still listed with what is known about it.

What you can do

  • Rename — changes the name in the list only. Nothing on disk moves.
  • Move the cache — moves the library's catalogue and thumbnails to another folder or drive. The photos never move. A dialog shows what will happen, then the move, with a way to stop it; Move it starts it.
  • Forget — stops listing the library and keeps its cache. The pane says where the catalogue and thumbnails still are.
  • Delete cache — deletes the library's catalogue and thumbnails and stops listing it. The photos are untouched.

Forget and Delete cache ask first.

This section is not shown when Portman2 runs on a temporary scratch library.
