Portman2 is in beta. Features are still being added, nothing here should be taken as final, and things can change or be removed without notice.

Import and convert

Import a few files once: Quick Import

Copy a few photos or videos into the library from anywhere, once: drag them in, see where each will be filed, and add tags or an album as they arrive.

Quick Import, at the bottom of the Import dialog's Import tab, is for a one-off import that is not worth a source of its own.

Gathering the files

Drag files or folders onto the panel, or use Select files… and Select folder…. Each adds to the list, so you can gather files from several places. Clear the list starts again, and the ✕ on a row takes that file out.

The list answers first

Every file is read before anything is imported, and its row says what will happen to it:

  • the folder it will be filed into;
  • already in the library;
  • needs a date — import, then the Conflicts tab;
  • not a file the library takes.

Choices

Under the list, in the order you decide them:

  • Add tags (optional) — tags for everything imported. As you type, the library's own tags are offered, and each tag shows as a chip that says whether it already exists or will be created;
  • Add to album — an existing album, or a new one. A new album is only created once something is actually imported into it;
  • Delete the original files after importing them — off by default, so Quick Import copies and leaves your files where they are;
  • Import.

If you chose to delete the originals, Portman2 then asks about the files it skipped because they were already in the library: they are still in their folder. Show them lists them, Delete N files removes them, and Leave them keeps them.
