Portman2 is in beta. Features are still being added, nothing here should be taken as final, and things can change or be removed without notice.

Multi screen

Show photos on a second screen

Show what you are browsing on a second monitor or the television: press Ctrl+Shift+P and the other screen shows the photo you are looking at.

Press Ctrl+Shift+P, or click the Multi screen button in the sidebar footer, to turn Multi screen on; do the same again to turn it off. The button is lit while it is on, and takes on a different colour while this computer is lending its screens to another one.

Which displays

Multi screen opens a screen window on every display you have enlisted in Screens ▸ Setup: click a display's box there to enlist it or take it off. While Multi screen is on, that click opens or closes the display's window at once. With no display enlisted, Multi screen opens in a window of its own.

What a screen window shows

Each screen window shows one thing, full screen, and nothing else — no buttons, no menus. By default that is Live: whatever you are looking at in the main window, whether that is the highlighted tile, the photo in the viewer, the comparer's highlight, the editor or a slideshow. Other modes show a pinned photo, a comparer slot or a sheet of facts.

Keys in a screen window

  • Esc closes that screen window; the others stay open.
  • F switches Fit to screen for that screen alone: edge to edge, or framed like the viewer's card.
  • F11 toggles full screen.

How every screen draws its photo — fit, fades and background — is set in Screens ▸ Styling.
