Portman2 is in beta. Features are still being added, nothing here should be taken as final, and things can change or be removed without notice.

Photo editor shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts for the Portman2 photo editor: move between the photos being edited, compare the edit with the original, save and close.

One surface for one photograph or thirty: every tile previews the edit live, and the sliders on the right apply to all of them. Bring one up on its own and a change belongs to that photograph alone — the tile then carries an overrides chip, and a change to the whole selection skips what it has of its own rather than asking.

Crop, straighten and the anchor are only editable with one photograph on screen, where the handles are big enough to mean anything.

Nothing is written until Save or Save as copy. The photograph also tracks the sliders on every live screen and on the LAN mirror.

Editing

Key Action
← → ↑ ↓ Move the highlight between the tiles — the sliders follow it, and with one photo on screen this pages through the selection
+ / − Zoom in / out — fewer, larger photos on screen, or more, smaller ones (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 16, 20). Zoomed all the way in, crop and the anchor become editable
PageDown / PageUp Page the highlighted tile through the photos waiting on the tray — the mouse wheel over a tile does the same
Enter Bring the highlighted photo up on its own, and back again — a change made there belongs to that photo alone (double-click does the same)
Del Take the highlighted photo out of this editing session — nothing on disk changes and the selection is untouched
B Show the original — the photo as it came out of the vault, with no edit on it. Stays until pressed again
Shift (hold) Peek at the original for as long as it is held — the flick to make with the other hand still on a slider
Y Side by side: the original on the left, the edit live on the right. One photo — from a sheet it takes the highlighted one
Space (hold) Momentary full-screen look at the highlighted photo, with the edit applied; release drops back
Shift+Space (hold) The same full-screen look, at the original
I The Info tab — the file facts for the highlighted photo
Ctrl+S Save — bake the edit over every photo in the session
Esc Back to the whole sheet, or — from the sheet — close the editor, asking first if anything is unsaved
