Privacy and usage reporting
Portman2 never sends your name, your photos or anything about your library. The Privacy pane decides whether this copy says, once a day, that it exists.
What is sent
With Let this copy say that it exists on, this copy sends, once when you first run it and once a day while you use it:
- a random number made on this computer, which identifies the installation and nothing about you;
- the version of Portman2 that is running;
- what Windows calls itself;
- whether this is the first run after installing or one of the daily checks.
No name, no address, no folder, no photo, and nothing about your library.
Turning it off
Switch it off and the reports stop, and the identifier is thrown away. Turning it off stops the reports; it does not merely hide the switch.
The setting is kept in a file beside the program. A copy of Portman2 that was not put there by the installer has nothing to report and never sends anything; the switch only appears on an installed copy.
If the file cannot be read, nothing is sent, and the pane offers to repair it with reporting left off.
The check for updates is separate: it sends only the platform, the release channel and the version, and is not a report.
